Implementasi Peran Role Model Oleh Dosen Di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang = The implementation of the teacher’s role as a role model at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang.

Latar Belakang: Peran dosen sebagai role model memiliki pengaruh yang besar dalam pembelajaran mahasiswa kedokteran. Penelitian ini bertujuan membahas implementasi peran role model oleh dosen di FK UMP. Metode: Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan desain fenomenologi dengan metode wawancara dosen, FGD mahasiswa, serta observasi beberapa sesi pembelajaran pada tahap akademik dan klinik. Pengumpulan data dilakukan di FK UMP dan RSMP selama 2 bulan. Hasil: Sejumlah 13 wawancara dosen, 6 FGD yang diikuti total 41 orang mahasiswa, dan 9 observasi sesi pembelajaran tahap akademik dan klinik telah diselesaikan. Seluruh informan memahami peran role model dosen, tetapi tidak seluruh dosen menjalankan peran tersebut. Kriteria role model positif meliputi aspek kualitas personal, keterampilan mengajar, dan kompetensi klinik. Informan memiliki pengalaman bersama role model positif dan negatif.Tantangan pelaksanaan peran ini dapat berasal dari dosen, mahasiswa, dan institusi. Diskusi: Peran role model diartikan sebagai dosen menjadi contoh, memotivasi dan menginspirasi mahasiswa. Kriteria role model positif yang khas di FK UMP, yaitu religius, penampilan islami, serta tidak merokok. Peran role model memengaruhi pengembangan profesionalisme, pilihan karir, dan kepuasan belajar mahasiswa. Role modeling dialami oleh seluruh informan mahasiswa dan mereka mengambil pelajaran melalui penilaian diri, membandingkan perilaku antar dosen, bertanya kepada dosen, teman sejawat, atau melihat kepuasan pasien. Faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi implementasi role model di FK UMP antara lain kepribadian dan kesadaran dosen , pengalaman dosen dengan role model dahulu, dan tantangan pelaksanaan peran role model. Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini menunjukkan pengaruh, kriteria, dan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi pelaksanaan peran role model di FK UMP. Melalui penelitian ini hal-hal yang mendorong atau menghalangi pelaksanaan peran role model oleh seluruh dosen FK UMP dapat diidentifikasi.

Background: The teacher’s role as a role model gives a great influence on medical students’ learning. The purpose of this study is to explore the implementation of role modeling by teachers at FM UMP.

Methods: This qualitative study used phenomenology design and incorporated teachers’ interviews, students’ FGDs, and observations of several learning sessions in academic and clinical settings. Data collection was completed at FM UMP and RSMP for two months. Results: A total of 13 teachers’ interviews, 6 FGDs attended by 41 students and 9 observations of learning sessios in academic and clinical settings have been completed. All informants understand about the teacher’s role as role models, but not all of them necessarily practice it. The attributes of positive role models can be divided into 3 domains : personal qualities, teaching skills and clinical competences. The informants had experiences with a positive and negative role models in the past. The challanges of practicing the role may derive from teachers, students, and the institution. Discussion: A role model is defined as a person who is able to be an example, can motivate and inspire students. The unique attribute of positive role models in FM UMP are identified namely being religious and not smoking. The role modeling may have impacts on students’ professional development, career choices, and satisfactions of student learning. Role modeling experienced by all student. They process the lessons through self-assessment, comparing the behaviors of teachers, asking mentors, colleagues, or by observing patient’s satisfaction. Factors that influence the implementation of role model in the FM UMP among others are personality and awareness of the teacher, teachers’ experiences with role models in the past, and the challenges of implementing the role. Conclusion: This study shows the influence, criteria, and factors that potentially affect the implementation of role modeling at FM UMP. This study suggests further elaboration of the hurdles and supporting factors of role modeling implementation by all teachers at the FM UMP.
