New Paradigm in the Threatment of Hepatic Cholestasis

INTRODUCTION
Hepatic cholestasis is a condition where there are impairment of the bile formation and flow. This can be happened due to intrahepatic or extrahepatic causes. Long-term cholestasis condition will progress to chronic liver injury and liver damage.
The causes of hepatocellular cholestasis in adult are sepsis induced
cholestasis, hepatitis virus infection, alcohol consumption, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), drug induced liver injury, genetic disorders, malignancy, vascular disorders, liver cirrhosis; whereas the causes of cholangiocellular cholestasis are Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC), Primary
Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), Ig-G4-associated cholangitis, cholangiolithiasis, ductal plate malformations, and cystic fibrosis.
Understanding the disease etiology and mechanism, and the diagnostic
approach are the main principles for the right management in clinical practice.
