Effect of Psychoeducation on the Knowledge of the Parents of Children and Adolescents with ADHD in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital = Pengaruh Psikoedukasi terhadap Pengetahuan Orang Tua dari Anak dan Remaja dengan GPPH di Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo.

Introduction Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder among children and adolescents in the world. Psychoeducation is a cornerstone of ADHD management, including the psychoeducation of relatives. Parents have been found to play a crucial role in the diagnosis and management of their children with ADHD. Therefore, a study is needed on the development of psychoeducation that is effective in increasing the knowledge of parents on how to help their children with ADHD in Indonesia. Method This study is a pre-post interventional study that uses an ADHD Knowledge Questionnaire adapted and translated into Indonesian from See et al. (2021) as a pre-test and post-test. Results Wilcoxon signed ranks test reveals that the knowledge of ADHD in the pre-test and posttest increased significantly (P < .001) across every category. The mean score was 38.0% (SD±21.4) on the pre-test and 58.3% (SD±26.2) on the post-test. Increased ADHD knowledge was significantly associated with having other friends or relatives with ADHD (p < 0.01) in the pre-test and with their level of education (p < 0.01) in the post-test. Discussion The parents’ knowledge of ADHD was relatively low before psychoeducation and increased to average levels in the post-test. The intervention is effective in all disorder information categories for parents of all personal factors, except their education level, which needs to be adjusted for. Conclusion Psychoeducation is a beneficial and effective method to increase knowledge of ADHD for parents in Indonesia.

Latar Belakang Gangguan Pemusatan Perhatian dan Hiperaktivitas (GPPH) adalah gangguan perkembangan saraf yang paling umum terjadi pada anak-anak dan remaja di dunia. Psikoedukasi merupakan landasan tatalaksana GPPH, termasuk psikoedukasi bagi keluarga. Orang tua terbukti memainkan peran penting dalam diagnosis dan penanganan anak-anak dan remaja dengan GPPH. Diperlukan penelitian mengenai pengembangan psikoedukasi yang efektif untuk mengajarkan orang tua penderita GPPH di Indonesia mengenai penanganan anaknya. Metode Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian intervensi pre-post yang menggunakan ADHD Knowledge Questionnaire yang diadaptasi dan diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia dari See et al.
