Pengaruh Herbal Acalypha indica dan Centella asiatica terhadap Kadar Karbonil Otak Tikus Sprague dawley Tua = The Effect of Acalypha indica and Centella asiatica on Carbonyl Concentration of Old Sprague dawley Rat’s Brain.
Pendahuluan: Setiap manusia pasti mengalami proses penuaan, di mana proses penuaan itu sendiri memiliki keterkaitan erat dengan kerusakan yang diakibatkan oleh radikal bebas. Kerusakan ini dapat terjadi pada protein dan akan memicu proses karbonilasi yang menghasilkan komponen bersifat racun yaitu karbonil. Berbagai kerusakan dan penurunan fungsi tubuh terkait proses penuaan menimbulkan ketertarikan umum terhadap suplementasi anti-aging, di antara nya ialah tanaman Acalypha indica dan Centella asiatica yang berpotensi memiliki kemampuan meredam radikal bebas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat kemampuan Acalypha indica dan Centella asiatica dalam menurunkan kadar karbonil akibat kerusakan protein pada proses penuaan. Metode: Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental di Laboratorium Departemen Biokimia dan Biologi Molekuler FKUI menggunakan homogenat otak tikus Sprague dawley yang dikelompokkan berdasarkan perlakuannya masing-masing. Hasil: Kadar karbonil pada otak tikus tua yang telah diberikan perlakuan Centella asiatica menunjukkan angka yang secara bermakna lebih rendah dibandingkan kelompok tikus tua tanpa perlakuan, sementara kelompok yang diberi perlakuan Acalypha indica tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang bermakna dengan kelompok tikus tua. Kesimpulan: Centella asiatica mampu menurunkan kadar karbonil yang disebabkan oleh kerusakan protein pada proses penuaan.

Introduction: Each and every individual goes through the process of ageing which has very strong correlation with damage caused by free radicals. These damages can happen in the proteins that make up our body and cause carbonylation which will then result in a toxic component known as carbonyl. The damage and impairment that happen with ageing makes anti-aging supplementary a common interest, among those are herbals Acalypha indica and Centella asiatica with their potential in fighting free radicals. This study aims to see whether or not Acalypha indica and Centella asiatica are able to lower the carbonyl concentration caused by protein damage in ageing. Method: This study was conducted as an experimental research in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory FKUI using homogenates from Sprague dawley rats’ brains that are classified into groups based on different treatments. Results: Carbonyl concentration in the homogenate from old rats that have been treated with Centella asiatica showed a significantly lower number compared to the old rat group without any treatment, while the homogenates from brain of old rats treated with Acalypha indica showed no significant difference compared to those of the old rats’. Conclusion: Centella asiatica has the ability to lower carbonyl concentration caused by protein damage in the process of ageing.
