The Prevalence of Skin Diseases and its Association with Hygiene Behavior and Level of Education in a Pesantren, Jakarta Selatan 2013 = Prevalensi Penyakit Kulit dan Asosiasi dengan Perilaku Kebersihan dan Tingkat Pendidikan di Pesantren, Jakarta Selatan 2013.

Skin diseases are very common in places where the society lives closely together. Pesantren is an example of a place where people live in a crowded situation and have high frequency of direct and indirect contact from one people to another. The objective of this research is to identify the association between the prevalence of skin diseases with the hygiene behavior and level of education of santris (students of pesantren). A cross-sectional study design was used for this study that was conducted from July to September 2013, in a pesantren in South Jakarta. The collection of data was carried out through questionnaire that consist of ten questions, which concerns hygienic behaviors and dermatological examinations. SPSS 20 was used to analyze the data and Fischer’s exact test was the chosen statistical test. Results showed that out of 98 santris, 88 of them have skin diseases (89.7% prevalence). The most frequent infectious skin disease is scabies with 49.3% prevalence (67 cases). Furthermore 78 (88.6%) out of those santris who got skin diseases, were categorized to have poor hygienic behaviors. There were only 10 santris that did not have any skin disease, three of them have good hygienic behaviors. There is no significant difference between hygienic behaviors of santris with the presence of skin disease (p=0.350). Regarding level of education, ibtidaiyah has the highest number of santris affected by skin disease with 51.2%.
