The effectiveness of health education among plantation workers on the knowledge level of prevention towards soil-transmitted helminths infection in Pacet, Cianjur = Efektivitas penyuluhan terhadap pekerja kebun mengenai pencegahan infeksi soil-transmitted helminths di Pacet, Cianjur.

Soil-transmitted helminthes infection is commonly found in Indonesia especially in the environment with poor sanitary condition in rural areas. Although the majority of cases usually found in children, adult can also be infected especially for those who have direct contact with soil everyday, such as plantation workers. The objective of this research is to observe the effectiveness of health education about prevention of STH infection among plantation workers in Pacet, Cianjur. The research design is pre-post study with health education as the intervention. This research was conducted at September 10th 2011 by giving the pretest questionnaires to 42 plantation workers (total population). Then, health education about prevention regarding STH infection was given to all the respondents and after that they received posttest questionnaires. The data was analyzed using SPSS 17.0 program, using Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Wilcoxon test. The result shows that the highest numbers of plantation workers were male (52,4%), plantation workers with elementary school graduated (69%), negative infected history (59,5%), and negative surrounding infected history (52,4%). In Mann- Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test, there were no significant differences between knowledge level and delta score before health education with gender (Mann- Whitney, p>0,05), education level (Kruskal-Wallis, p>0,05), infected history (Mann-Whitney, p>0,05), and surrounding infected history (Mann-Whitney, p>0,05). Infeksi soil-transmitted helminthes merupakan penyakit yang sering ditemui di Indonesia, terutama pada daerah dengan tingkat kebersihan rendah seperti pedesaan. Walaupun penyakit ini seringkali dijumpai pada anak-anak, tidak banyak orang dewasa yang terinfeksi penyakit ini terutama dewasa yang pekerjaan sehari-harinya berhubungan dengan tanah, dalam hal ini pekerja kebun. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai efektifitas penyuluhan mengenai pencegahan infeksi STH pada pekerja kebun di Pacet, Cianjur, Desain penelitian ini adalah pre-post study dengan penyuluhan kesehatan sebagai intervensi. Penelitian ini diselenggarakan pada tanggal 10 September 2011 dengan membagikan kuisioner pretest kepada 42 pekerja kebun (total populasi). Setelah itu dilakukan penyuluhan kesehatan mengenai pencegahan infeksi STH, lalu semua peserta penyuluhan menerima kuisioner posttest. Data dianalisis dengan program SPSS 17.0 dengan uji Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, dan Wilcoxon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa responden terbanyak adalah laki-laki (52,4%), pekerja kebun dengan tingkat lulusan sekolah dasar (69%), riwayat belum pernah terinfeksi (59,5%), dan riwayat orang sekitar belum pernah terinfeksi (52,4%). Pada uji Mann-Whitney dan Kruskal-Wallis, tidak ditemukan perbedaan bermakna antara tingkat pengetahuan dan delta score sebelum penyuluhan dengan jenis kelamin (Mann-Whitney, p>0,05), tingkat pendidikan (Kruskal-Wallis, p>0,05), riwayat terinfeksi (Mann-Whitney, p>0,05), dan riwayat orang sekitar yang pernah terinfeksi (Mann-Whitney, p>0,05).
