Dampak konsumsi susu formula pertumbuhan terhadap kadar feritin serum dibandingkan susu UHT pada anak berusia 18 - 36 bulan = The impact of growing-up milk consumption on serum ferritin levels compared to UHT milk consumption in children aged 18 - 36 month old.

Latar belakang: Masa anak berusia 1-3 tahun merupakan masa dengan konsumsi zat besi terendah sepanjang umur manusia. Hal ini karena saat anak berusia satu tahun, ASI atau susu formula sering mulai digantikan oleh susu sapi biasa, selain itu anak juga mulai mencoba beragam makanan lain termasuk mengonsumsi jenis makanan yang tidak difortifikasi. Tujuan: Mengetahui kadar feritin serum pada anak berusia 18-36 bulan yang mengonsumsi susu formula pertumbuhan dan ASI atau susu formula pertumbuhan saja dibandingkan dengan yang mengonsumsi susu UHT dan ASI atau susu UHT saja selama minimal 4 bulan. Metode: Studi potong lintang melibatkan 30 subjek pada kelompok susu formula pertumbuhan dan 31 subjek pada kelompok susu UHT. Hasil: Nilai tengah feritin serum pada kelompok susu formula pertumbuhan 25,1 (4,067,0); pada kelompok susu UHT 8,9 (2,0-51,0) (p6.81mg/hari): terdiri dari 21/30 (70%) subjek kelompok susu formula pertumbuhan (17/30 subjek asupan besinya lebih banyak dari susu, yang diantaranya 11/30 subjek kebutuhan besinya telah tercukupi dari susu, 4/30 subjek asupan besinya lebih banyak dari makanan) dan 2/31 (6,5%) subjek kelompok susu UHT yang asupan besinya tercukupi dari makanan. Simpulan: Feritin serum pada kelompok susu formula pertumbuhan lebih tinggi secara bermakna daripada susu UHT.

Background: One to three year old children is an age group with the lowest iron consumption. As a child turns one year old, breast milk or formula milk is often switched to common cow’s milk and various types of food including non-fortified ones. Objectives: To obtain serum ferritin levels in children age 18-36 month old who consumed growing-up milk plus breast milk or growing-up milk only compared to those who consumed ultra high temperature (UHT) milk plus breast milk or UHT milk only for at least 4 months. Methods: A cross sectional study involving 30 subjects in growing-up milk group and 31 subjects in UHT milk group. Results: The median level of serum ferritin in growing-up milk group was higher than UHT milk group, 25.1 (4.0-67.0) vs 8.9 (2.0-51.00) g/L (p6.81 mg/day) which was consisted of 21/30 (70%) subjects in growing-up milk group (17/30 subjects had more iron intake from milk than food, 11/30 subjects had adequate intake from milk, and 4/30 subjects had more iron intake from food than milk) and 2/31 (6,5%) subjects in UHT milk group which received adequate iron intake from food. Conclusions: The serum ferritin is significantly higher in growing-up milk group compared to UHT milk group.
