Association between playing video game with myopia in elementary school children at SDN Menteng 01 Jakarta and SDN Babakan Madang Sentul

Playing video games is recognized as one near-work activity which considered as the risk factor of myopia. The invention of sophisticated devices enables children to play video games in longer duration. Various negative effects has been reported including the risk to get myopia. In this cross-sectional includes elementary school children as its subjects. The association between playing vido games and myopia were sought. After statistical analysis was done, It was known that the prevalence of myopia in the subjects was 16.5%. There was no association found between playing video games and myopia (p > 0.05). Another analysis of association between daily exposure and weekend exposure with myopia also found no significant result (p > 0.05). Thereby, playing video games does not associated with the prevalence of myopia in elementary school children. Keywords: myopia, video game.
