Evaluation of the effect of regiment I of chemotherapy in lymphoma patients to chromosomal aberratrions by using G - Banding technique
The numbers of cancer patients are rising day by day, in Indonesia cancer ranked as the 7th killer disease. From 1975 – 2007 in United States the incidence of Hodgkin‟s was 2.80, while the incidence of non Hodgkin‟s disease was 19.60, both rates are per 100.000 populations. Various treatment options ranges from surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or combination therapy are available to decrease mortality rate or to prolong survival rate of the patients. Some of the treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy can produce unwanted effects which cause aberration of the chromosome. In this study, G – Banding technique are used to observe chromosomal changes in patients with lymphoma cancer that receive chemotherapy in Department of Internal Medicine RSCM. Patients‟ venous blood samples are taken before treatment and after first round of chemotherapy and the chromosomal changes are observed. Based on the result, there are observable aberrations in patients karyotype result before the treatment. X chromosome constantly shown abnormality in 4 patients. After the first chemotherapy treatment, chromosome aberrations occur more frequently and more severe compared to the before treatment, this suggest that chemotherapy cause chromosomal aberrations.
